Johnson won 83 NASCAR races and a record-equaling seven season championships during 19 seasons as a full-time NASCAR driver. Since he last competed as a regular in 2020, Johnson spent two seasons driving on the IndyCar tour before becoming part of the Legacy Motor Club ownership team in 2023.

Legacy this season will field two full-time cars, the No. 43 Toyota for Erik Jones — two top-fives in two seasons with the team and a finish of 28th in the Cup Series standings — and the No. 42 Toyota for John Hunter Nemechek. Neither driver made the playoffs.

Seven-time NASCAR Cup champion Jimmie Johnson has taken a big step forward in his racing career by becoming the majority owner of Legacy Motor Club. Alongside him, the team has welcomed a new partner, Knighthead Capital Management, which has taken a minority stake in the NASCAR outfit.
