Team Canada was without defenseman Cale Makar during their 3-1 loss to Team USA last Saturday, but the 2022 Norris Trophy winner will be in the lineup Thursday night as the two teams square off in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship game.

MONTREAL -- Cale Makar was on the ice for Canada's morning skate Saturday and will be a game-time decision for its showdown with the United States at the 4 Nations Face-Off at Bell Centre (8 p.m. ET; ABC, ESPN+, SN, TVAS).

Cale Makar will miss Saturday’s Canada vs USA game due to illness. Thomas Harley, who flew to Montreal yesterday as emergency replacement, draws in. Makar is eligible to return later in tournament.

Cale Makar will miss Saturday's 4 Nations Face-Off game against Team USA amid recovery from an illness. Makar is considered day-to-day, according to TSN's Pierre LeBrun. ESPN's Emily Kaplan noted he has not been ruled out for the rest of the tournament.

Jon Cooper stopped short of saying he expected Makar to play. Thomas Harley of the Dallas Stars was added to the roster to take Makar’s spot in the lineup. Canada had been down to six healthy defensemen after Shea Theodore was injured Wednesday night against Sweden and ruled out for the rest of the NHL-run international tournament.
