Prosecutors have added a second felony charge against the Woodbury DFL senator accused of breaking into her stepmother’s Detroit Lakes home last April, a move her attorney says could possibly push back her trial into the next legislative session.

Minnesota State Sen. Nicole Mitchell is now facing a second charge in connection with a burglary at a Detroit Lakes home.

Prosecutors filed an additional felony charge against Sen. Nicole Mitchell (DFL-Woodbury) on Monday, alleging the lawmaker possessed a crowbar when she allegedly broke into her stepmother's Detroit Lakes home last year.

Originally charged with first-degree burglary, the new charge is a count of “possession of burglary or theft tools”
