Thanks to the bipartisan CHIPS Act, tech giant Intel chose to invest billions in Ohio to develop a massive semiconductor manufacturing plant.

It’s not clear to lawmakers what the president thinks should happen to a “horrible, horrible” law — or if changing it is politically possible.

The CHIPS and Science Act signed by then President Joe Biden in August 2022 included $39 billion in subsidies for U.S. semiconductor manufacturing.

During his joint session to Congress, the president called for a repeal to the CHIPS Act. The act was passed by Congress with bipartisan support and was signed into law by President Joe Biden in 2022.
