Charles Phan, the San Francisco chef credited as an innovator for bringing Vietnamese food to fine dining at his Slanted Door restaurant, has died. The restaurant announced his death from cardiac arrest in an Instagram post on Tuesday,

He also expanded his vision to new locations, including a Slanted Door in San Ramon and, more recently, France and Napa.

His San Francisco restaurant, the Slanted Door, was among the first to feature Vietnamese food in a modern, sophisticated setting.
