The Army Black Hawk helicopter that collided with an American Airlines commuter plane near Reagan Washington National Airport in Virginia Wednesday was on a “training flight” when they crashed into the Potomac River, according to the military service branch.

The UH-60 Black Hawk with the 12th Aviation Battalion was on a training flight when it hit an American Airlines plane with 64 onboard.

Three American soldiers were on board a Black Hawk helicopter when it was involved in a mid-air collision near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
