Friday were treated with a total lunar eclipse, which turned the moon into a visible glowing red orb, often called a "Blood Moon." But thanks to cloudy skies and the need for sleep, not everyone was able to see peak illumination.

A rare blood moon lunar eclipse — which hasn’t happened in the U.S. since 2022 — was visible for skywatchers across most of North and South America, as well as the west side of Africa and Europe, the eastern parts of Australia and Russia and northern Japan.

Blue Ghost just sent back amazing photos of last night's "Blood Moon" total lunar eclipse from its perch in Mare Crisium, or "Sea of Crises," a vast basin on the northeastern region of the moon's near side. Blue Ghost landed there on March 2 and has been sending us stunning photos and videos of its moon excursion ever since.
