Cruise lines like Carnival and Royal Caribbean have fairly strict rules when it comes to alcohol. Of course, passengers must be of legal drinking age to consume alcohol on board. For Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruises departing from the U.S., that means passengers must be 21 years of age or older to drink alcohol at sea.

As an example, Royal Caribbean offers an itinerary aboard Rhapsody of the Seas, departing from San Juan, that features port days in St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Maarten, Antigua, and Barbados — all in a 7-night cruise.

Carnival Corp. is putting the finishing touches on, not a new ship, but a new destination for cruise passengers. Beginning in July, Doral-based Carnival will send ships between PortMiami and Celebration Key, a private development in the Bahamas.
